Alright, here’s the tea: FAA is doing the Capital Pride Festival!
For the FIRST TIME EVER, THE FAA has gotten a booth to participate in the Capital Pride Festival being held on Sunday, June 9th, 2024, from 12 noon to 7 PM (i.e., Exhibitor Hours). This is historic for our professional community & you all have our FAA Pride President, Jim Hatt, to thank for this massive opportunity for us. He advocated and stomped on the table for this, and hopefully, this will quickly become an annual tradition, not only for the DMV area but also nationwide at some point. However, to reach that near and mid-term goal, we NEED YOU, FAA Pride Family, to help us truly make this an annual tradition AND to help THE FAA continue to unlock the knowledge, skills, and many talents held within our vast and beautiful community.
So, with that stated, CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! FAA Pride & the FAA will need volunteers to help us staff the Capital Pride Festival Booth. The Booth Staffing shifts will run from 9 AM to 5 PM, including shifts for Booth setup and breakdown. There will be FOUR 2-hour shifts. 2-hours is all we are asking because we DO NOT want to take up your entire day and want you all to enjoy the festivities, too! The shifts are listed below for convenience and planning purposes:
- 9 AM-11 AM (Setup Shift)
- 11 AM-1 PM (Partial Setup Shift from 11 AM-12 PM)
- 1 PM-3 PM (Full Festival Shift)
- 3 PM-5 PM (Breakdown from 5 PM-6 PM)
We need 2-3 people per shift, meaning we need 10-15 FAA employees in total to help adequately staff the FAA Capital Pride Booth for the entire duration. We WILL PROVIDE water and snacks to ALL the volunteers willing to help us out. If you are interested in volunteering for at least one of the FAA Capital Pride Booth shifts, please RSVP to this calendar event by June 6th. Because this is considered an FAA recruitment event, guests will not be allowed at the booth, but they are more than welcome to attend and peruse the Pride Festival at their leisure.
So, what do you say? Are you willing to help us out? I know that I will be signing up for a shift. So, come out and join the party. Most importantly, DO NOT ALLOW this to be the last time THE FAA chooses to participate in a Pride Festival. Their commitment to the cause will depend on OUR commitment to the cause.
